Eagle 4, the hit Afghan action series featuring an elite police unit tasked with battling the country’s most serious crimes, has won the Jury’s Special Prize at the prestigious Seoul International Drama Awards.
The program, produced by Kaboora Production and aired on TOLO TV, was one of two winners among nine nominees selected by a jury made up of acclaimed producers, writers and directors from around the world.
Accepting the award on behalf of Kaboora Production in Seoul, Korea, Trudi-Ann Tierney, Head of Drama at Kaboora said, “Making television anywhere in the world is inherently difficult but making a 13 part action series in a war zone brings with it a whole new set of problems that are as unexpected as they are unimaginable.”
“We are honoured to receive this award, which recognizes the hard work and determination of the talented crew who tackled this incredibly daunting task and succeeded.”

The awards ceremony, which began in 2006, broke previous records receiving 204 entries from 37 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Israel, India, United Kingdom, Brazil, USA, France, Spain, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Germany, Denmark and Canada. Eagle 4 was one of 14 award recipients, recognized for excellence in promoting television drama throughout the world.

“Eagle 4 is a ground-breaking show in Afghanistan. It has created new standards in television for its high quality production and engaging storyline, which is what audiences have come to expect from Kaboora and TOLO,” said Saad Mohseni, Chairman of MOBY Group, which owns and operates TOLO TV and Kaboora.
“Not only is it an entertaining program, but it also addresses more pertinent issues affecting Afghans everyday, including corruption, terrorism and drugs. This is the sixth locally produced series in our portfolio, which is a great feat considering only 10 years ago, television was banned in Afghanistan. The award is a credit to the tireless cast and crew, who are about to embark on shooting for Season 2.”

This is the second time Kaboora has been recognized at the ceremony. In 2008 it won an award for Raz ha een Khana (“Secrets of this House”), the first drama series to be made in Afghanistan. Raz ha een Khana is currently in its fourth season on TOLO.
